"Give me freedom, give me fire~" I sang quietly, smiling softly to myself, causing my voice to become louder each note, and almost perfectly adjust to the original singer's voice. The song ended a couple minutes later and I spun around in my chair. "Did you like it, Mathi-" I stopped myself. "He's not real, Kensie!" I scolded myself. I sighed and turned back to the laptop in front of me, waiting for the next song to play.
"Hei, du pappa, gi meg akkevitten-"
Ding Dong.
"Door!" I called to my grandparents. I never heard the door open, though. Must've been the mailman leaving a package, or some stupid teens playing ding-dong-ditch. Oh well. I continued singing in Norwegian, one of the many languages I yearned to know.
Ring...Ring...Ring...
"Phone!" I called out again. I looked at the caller I.D.: "Jessica." "Never mind, I got it!" I said, quickly picking up the phone. "Hello?"
"Kensie!" My best friend's voice cried excitedly.
"Hvad?!" I cried back, a smile blooming across my face. Was Jessi moving back? Was she coming to stay with me? "What?!" I corrected myself, using proper English.
"I just watched Hetalia, and guess what!" She explained, making me heart-rate increase with each passing second.
"Ja, ja, ja?!" I said, too excited to speak in English.
"I can go to Dragon*Con with you!!" We both let out a disturbingly loud squeal.
"Will you be cosplaying?" I asked, eagerly awaiting her response.
"Totally!!"
"As who?" I questioned. "Lithuania, Romania, Japan?" I asked, my excited smile still plastered on my face.
"I'm going to be Denmark!" She exclaimed, raising my hopes even higher.
"That's so cool, Jessi!"
"Who're you going as?" She asked, as she calmed herself down a bit. Now, before you start getting confused as to why both of us are so freaking excited, have a little sob-story:
About two years back, my friend: Jessica Cole moved three hours away from my own house. She had been my best friend for as long as I can remember. Her father had a lot of medical problems, though. He had had two heart-attacks in the past year or so, because of the stress from driving to his job. So they had to move closer to the place he works. And then, after they moved, the financial trouble came into play. They couldn't pay the taxes, they couldn't afford simple things like food, and they couldn't pay the bills. I felt really sorry for Jessi. That's all that's happened so far. Now back to the phone call.
"Italy-kun~" I chirped cheerfully. My smile grew and grew as Jessi explained her current circumstances. Her dad got a well-paying job, as did her mom, she was able to order the cosplay and everything. And since she had finished up driver's ED, she could down! I felt so happy I could've exploded.
"I can't wait to see you," She said, after about an hour of talking, fangirling, etc. "Bye, love you!"
"Love you too, bye." The line went dead and I quickly set the phone back on the receiver. But then I was plunged back into my normal depression. My dream was to actually meet the real Hetalia characters, not just the cosplayer, the characters. But I knew that would never happen. So my substitute to gill the void where they should all be, is I think of them like they're there, but it's all in my imagination.
I clicked the tab on my browser window entitled "DeviantART" and checked my new messages: 27 deviations, 3 deviantWATCHes, 3 feedback, and 1 note. I deleted all the deviations, commented on one deviantWATCH and went to read any feedback messages. One was from my friend Riley Birch, another from Tatianna Rodriguez, and one from Isabel Autumn. All three of those girls had been my best friends from the beginning.
I scrolled down to see what each of them had written and every single message said:
"I'M GOING TO DRAGON*CON WITH YOU!!! : D"
I almost died right then and there. Isabel was going to cosplay Romano, Tatianna as Prussia, and Riley as Norway. All those character were from Hetalia: Axis Powers. My favourite anime. I responded to each of them saying:
"HOLY CRAP!! That's so freaking awesome, bro! I'm gonna be Italy! 8D"
I remember hyperventilating at that moment. After I calmed down, I ran downstairs to tell my grandparents about all the good news. They were really excited for me. And I really excited because I couldn't wait to get my Italy costume in the mail.
